Introduction about RuneScape: RuneScape is a MMORPG (Mass-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) which is much like your Maplestory and many others. In RuneScape, there are 2 versions of the game. One is the free version(F2P - Free to Play) which is quite limited and the second one is called the the Members' version which is the one im currently in(P2P - Pay to Play) which requires you to pay about S$10 per month to enjoy its full features such as the Mage Training Arena and unlock your access to 100+ more challenging quests than before.

RuneScape has a total of 24 skills which are: Agility(Members), Construction(Members), Cooking, Crafting, Farming(Members), Firemaking, Fishing, Fletching(Members), Herblore(Members), Hunter(Members), Magic, Mining, Prayer, Ranged, Runecrafting, Slayer, Smithing, Summoning(Members), Thieving(Members), woodcutting, hitpoints(A.K.A. HP), and 3 melee skills (Attack, Defence and Strength)

More elaborations of the skills can be discovered by reading through RuneScape's skill manual which tells you about everything in raising the skills. The maximum level of a skill is level 99 which amounts to 13million exp in total.

RuneScape has been rated as one of the most Educational games for its nature of Business making such as Value-Added services (e.g. 1 iron ore, 2 coal ores cost around 400gp, but a steel bar which is smelted from them cost 600gp) and the Grand Exchange (Put in the items you want sold in there, the system will process the transaction for you).

Also recently, for 'O' level English Comprehension, its story is linked to the story of a RuneScape's quest 'Icthlarin's Little Helper'.

You start off in a cool-looking tutorial island, which guides you step-by-step before you step into the world of RuneScape.

For background knowledge: The Questcape of RuneScape is awarded to individuals who have completed all the quests of RuneScape(there are a total of 146 quests with 19 free and 128 members-only quests as of September 29 2008). Players who have the maximum number of quest points are able to wear the quest point cape, a Cape of Accomplishment. However, whenever a new quest is available, the cape and hood will automatically be unequipped from a player until the player completes the new quest.

I have been working to obtain the quest cape 1 year ago, and I did it finally =)

Therefore hold on to all the goals you have, don't let go, and eventually you will feel the same sense of accomplishment as me.

Random information: I have started RuneScape when I was primary 5 or at the age of 11, 25th December 2002 and have been playing since.

Thats the point of playing. If things are so easy, you won't need to set goals. Its better than DotA at least when people cannot ks you and you have the option to block off what others say by using the 'Add Ignore' option.

Fighting Iron Dragons(Strangely, they do not rust)


I got a Dragon Plateskirt drop from one of the Iron Dragons (One Dragon plateskirt is about 200k)

This is where many train their Prayer skill in Members. They make bonemeals here which can be used to give 4 times more experience than usual bones they bury.


RuneScape: The Ectofuntus
This is where the usage of bonemeals are carried out.


RuneScape: Castle Wars
This is the home to one of RuneScape's biggest minigame, the castle wars. This game uses the concept of the game 'Capture the flag'. The 2 portals at the extreme top and bottom is the two teams, the one in the middle allow you to be allocated to a random team.


RuneScape: Basement of Ectofuntus
This is where you collect slime, used in conjunction with the bonemeals to earn prayer experience.

mmmm, i find runescape very money orientated.
if u dun pay, it's like u only get to play the trailer part..

Why do people create games?

1. For entertainment
2. For money

Every games need to earn profit of some kind. Even if they wanna go profitless, you need to take in account the fees for hosting a large number of players and the number of computers needed to host 100+ RuneScape servers.

If I was the creator of RuneScape, I would only give people a 5-day-trial or something, so that I wont waste money to host the free players who can play as long as they want and still receive some kind of updates.

5-day trials would not entice people. That is why there are such systems like membership (for runescape, etc...) and a-cash systems (for maplestory, etc... ) An example for a system which made people pay on a per month basis is ragnarok, however you must understand, gamers go to where the community is large, where the game is fun. Let me ask you a question, if there was a game which made you pay-to-play, you are most probably quite turned off. If the graphics are bad, it turns you off even more. Ultimately, if the gaming community is small, would you even bother giving the game a try?
These creators let you play for free, because it attracts you. Once you are enticed by these games, it would be hard to let go, especially for younger children. Then you would want to explore further, like runescape. You have the cash, you pay for the privileges that you never had.
Hosting free players form the community. Lets say you go to the member area to gain your resources, ores, fishes, etc... (due to the fact that its easier to obtain these resources there)
But who are the ones that are going buy your stuff? Who is going to pay the gold? Who are the ones who are willing to get ripped off?(Just kidding) The community of players who can't obtain the items as easily as you.
And if there were no 'free' players, would you even bother paying to play, when there is no market for the items you obtained?
